This game opened with Philadelphia as a three-point home favorite and a 48.5 total. By Monday it’s Dallas by 4.5 and 44, a seven-and-a-half-point swing for a Cowboys team that has scored 29 points in its last two games combined. That’s a fine total for one Monday night and a poor one for a fortnight. The move isn’t about Dallas. It’s about Tanner McKee making his second career start behind a rebuilt line, for an Eagles offense that has lost four straight and averaged 14.5 points doing it. Fading the backup is the right instinct. The trouble is that the betting board has also marked down McKee’s yardage, and he’s throwing against a defense that gives up 0.469 EPA per dropback.
We ran 20,000 simulations. Philadelphia’s points are drawn around its 19.5 implied total; everything inside them comes from our play-by-play. Three things in those sims don’t match what the public is buying:
- McKee’s yards: his passing line fell from 211.5 to 196.5 this week. We project 221, and the sim’s mean is 273.
- Dallas Goedert’s yards: his line rose from 40.5 to 50.5 once Philadelphia’s receiver news came out. Both of our numbers stayed at 41.
- Where the ownership is going: the field has a rookie receiver on 62% of rosters and CeeDee Lamb, who has the biggest ceiling in the game, on 17%.
Model vs. market: anytime touchdowns
We convert projected rushing and receiving touchdowns into a probability of scoring at least once, then compare it with the best price at the six books. Our projections run lower on touchdowns than the books do almost everywhere, so the useful number is the ratio: how much of the market’s price our model supports.
| Player | Best price | Market | Model | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Javonte WilliamsDAL · RB | -155 | 60.8% | 52.6% | 0.87 |
| Jake FergusonDAL · TE | +260 | 27.8% | 24.1% | 0.87 |
| Makai LemonPHI · WR | +320 | 23.8% | 19.7% | 0.83 |
| George PickensDAL · WR | +175 | 36.4% | 22.8% | 0.63 |
| CeeDee LambDAL · WR | +125 | 44.4% | 25.3% | 0.57 |
| Dallas GoedertPHI · TE | +195 | 33.9% | 19.2% | 0.57 |
None of these touchdown prices clears the bar this week. Williams comes closest. He’s the goal-line back with 17 projected carries, and both our projection and our sim make him more likely than not to score, but -155 still asks for more than we have. Pickens is the most popular touchdown call in this game, and our model backs less than two-thirds of his price: 7.4 projected targets, behind Lamb’s 8.4. Lamb at +125 and Goedert at +195 are the two the market likes much more than we do. With Lamb, the case is ceiling and yards, not a coin-flip touchdown.
Model vs. market: ownership
The crowd is building this game on Philadelphia’s cheap receivers. Makai Lemon is projected at 62.0% owned for $3,800. In the sim he averages 6.5 DraftKings points on 4.2 targets, with a 90th percentile of 12.0. Across McKee’s starts on record, Lemon has 6 targets for 19 yards. Our projection is kinder (11.0) because the depth chart has thinned in front of him, but neither number says “must-play”. Further down, Emari Demercado ($1,400, 2.7 projected) and Hollywood Brown ($2,800, 1.9 projected) are both over 55%. That’s a lot of roster spots spent on players our numbers expect to score next to nothing.
The ceiling is on the other side. Lamb’s 29.4 projected ceiling is the highest in the pool, and in the sim his mean is 20.3 with a 90th percentile of 31.9. He’s 17.2% owned, less than half of Dak Prescott (38.2%) and Williams (32.7%). Ryan Flournoy ($5,000, 8.6%) is the other underpriced Cowboy: a 9.3 sim mean and a 16.1 90th percentile, more than the field’s favorite rookie on both counts.
Our Board rates the Cowboys DST far ahead of Philadelphia’s (80.9 vs. 21.5), and it’s only 10.4% owned. A backup quarterback who took three sacks in his debut is a reasonable thing to be on the other side of.
Team context worth carrying
- Dallas’s pass defense: 0.469 EPA allowed per dropback, and the short middle is the soft spot at 0.768 a throw on 31 attempts. Philadelphia’s offense has thrown there 30 times this season and gained 0.334 a throw. A Dallas defense that gives up 6.0 yards a play doesn’t need McKee to be good, just patient.
- Prescott’s own target history: in his 16 starts on record, Flournoy has drawn 66 targets at 0.358 EPA each, more efficient per target than Lamb (0.274). Lamb is the volume, with 163 targets, 1,430 yards and an 11.0-yard aDOT. Flournoy is the efficiency, at a third of the price.

Captain and build
Lamb is the captain. He tops the game on our ceiling-weighted score, the sim gives him the highest mean and a 61.7-point top end, and at 17.2% in the flex he’ll be well under that in the captain slot. Both quarterbacks go in the flex. Prescott is the second-best scorer in the sim at 19.8, and McKee’s 16.3 for $8,600 matches Prescott point for point per dollar at $1,800 less. A Lamb captain also pays when Philadelphia keeps it close: Dallas’s passing volume only grows if McKee lands punches. Flournoy fills the second Dallas receiver spot. We leave Williams out at 32.7%; his $10,600 buys the floor everyone else already has.

The bets
- Tanner McKee Over 196.5 passing yards, -111 (DraftKings; 198.5 at FanDuel). The line has dropped 15 yards this week. Our projection is 221, the sim’s mean is 273 on 34 attempts, and he threw 45 passes in his first start. Against a defense allowing 0.469 EPA per dropback, a backup who is chasing the game gets to 200.
- Dallas Goedert Under 50.5 receiving yards, -113 (DraftKings). The market moved this up 10 yards on the receiver news. Our projection and the sim both put him at 41, on 5.4 to 5.6 targets. Fewer receivers in front of him doesn’t change a 7.0-yard aDOT on McKee’s throws to his tight end.
- Javonte Williams Over 63.5 rushing yards, -114 (DraftKings; 64.5 at FanDuel). We project 17 carries for 80 yards and the sim lands at 68. Dallas is a road favorite that wants to run the clock down late. That’s the script where he gets there, and it’s the script the spread expects.
No captain touchdown bet: Lamb at +125 is priced at 44%, and we have him at 25%. No spread or total, either. Philadelphia covers +4.5 in 52.0% of our sims and the over hits in 51.9%. Those are coin flips at -110.
Method: model touchdown probability = 1 − e−λ, where λ is projected rushing plus receiving touchdowns. Simulated numbers come from 20,000 runs of this game, with each team’s points drawn around its implied total and the shape from our play-by-play.
