Sunday Dongers Club – June 26th

Sunday MLB DFS was once my favorite day of the week but that feels like it has long since faded away.  I am not sure the exact reason here as I’m not doing anything really different on Sundays in my mind, but maybe then that’s the problem.

You need to be a little unconventional at times in MLB DFS and so do not be afraid to do that on a Sunday if you need to mix up the mojo.  Stop worrying about what “has happened” when deciding on things and worry about what you want to happen in spots.

No this just doesn’t mean you blindly go out and pick things, but be smart about where games are in the series and ask yourself “Is that going to keep happening?”.

The great news today is that we have Site Synchronicity as both FanDuel and DraftKings roll out a 9 game MAIN slate.

WEATHER

Some light rain in Cleveland for the Red Sox and Guardians, game should play though as is the case for all other 8 games.

Gusty winds in Target Field but not 80+ degree temps.  Winds are out to, Right Kepler, err Center..

BRADY SINGER

I honestly have more confidence today in Singer to reach his potential than anyone else.   This is a much lower dew point game with the wind blowing in today in Kauffman Stadium so there’s very limited HR risk against Oakland in those conditions and I firmly believe the Royals win a quiet 4-1 game where they don’t make stupid base running decisions or poor outfield defense plays.

Happy Singer day.

DYLAN CEASE

Mancini, Santander, Mountcastle, Adley, Odor and Mateo.  Cease will see each of them twice and he’ll strike them out a combined 8 times.  I am absolutely DONE with the fucking White Sox from a betting standpoint and I’m extremely close in a DFS perspective as well.

But for pitching purposes, Cease to me can and should beat out Shane McClanahan today.

Sunday (Deep) Sleepers

ROANSY CONTRERAS

We might as well call him Roarnsy Contrarian because that’s what he is as our top Sunday Sleeper pick of the day.   Is the over/under on this game seriously 6?  You guys do realize that Shane McClanahan is going to get beat up very soon?  Like, really soon.  And even with Wander Franco coming back Roansy’s devastating slider will cause havoc in this game enough to make him a good DK play before the bullpen blows the lead and the over hits.

JACK FLAHERTY

Your best ‘cheap’ pitcher today is someone who has the pedigree but everyone is going to be too scared to trust.  Ignore the total batters faced in his first two starts, the first should have been down in the minor leagues and then his last start in Milwaukee is a spot he’s never pitched well in – but they let him go up to 71 pitches and I think he’ll push 85 today.

The Cubs are a big strike out target and we’re going to see the good Jack today.  His $6,600 price tag makes him the best cheap SP2.

Quick Notes

Joe Ryan could have himself a good game today if he can keep the ball down.  The wind scares me but outside of Grichuk I like the match-up for him.

Shane McClanahan is going to be everyone’s “oh play him” against the Pirates despite his high prices.  I see a guy who has never gone above 120 IP that is quickly approaching the 100 mark this season and a Pirates lineup which is actually hitting well of late and to me is going to be pesky today.

It is Nestor Cortes t-shirt day at the stadium and he like Shane is hitting a wall having never thrown a ton of innings.  He started to hit that wall last start and now faces a really good Houston lineup which we never use pitchers against unless they are short and … oh shit, he’s 5’11.  Hmm.

GUARDIANS v RED SOX

Ramirez, Rosario … Duran, Martinez, Cordero

Let me just pat myself on the back here as the guy who has been Riding Red Sox money line wins all week long and will continue to do that until July 4th.  This could wind up being another sweat though because the Guardians should hit Dick Mountain today despite having some weak pitch type splits in this spot.  It’s Cleveland at home on a Sunday and so the only question is what time does Jose Ramirez homer.

Meanwhile for the LiC Red Sox, we can check off Devers and Verdugo homers and we patiently await the Duran and Cordero bombs today.

BREWERS v BLUE JAYS

Tellez, Yelich … Springer, Hernandez

Growing up as a kid I went to Church with my parents on Sunday’s like a good Christian Boy.  While there I usually would day dream about Sports or other random stuff like a normal boy, but after wards we would go to Chi Chi’s all the time for lunch.  You remember Chi Chi’s right?  The home of the Chimi-Chunga.  Well, Chi Chi on a Sunday, could this be a narrative?

Look for fireworks on both sides in this game.  Berrios is likely to struggle to keep the ball in the park vs Milwaukee and Toronto will hit bombs starting with a George Springer Dinger.

NATIONALS

Cruz, Soto, Bell, Franco

There is something in this game and I’m not positive what it is, but Glenn Otto isn’t someone we should ignore either.  He doesn’t miss bats and the Nats aren’t a high swing and miss team either.  Nelson Cruz has finally gotten his old body warmed up and could definitely go yard work again today while Josh Bell & Juan Soto are definitely putting the ball in play too.  I wouldn’t be shocked if the Nationals are a late afternoon hammer stack that puts up a lot of crooked numbers.  You are either all in on them or all out though and I’ll have them in a secondary lineup as a full stack.

Today’s BOOST+ Players …

Bobby Witt Jr, Juan Yepez, Jarren Duran, Harrison Bader, Aledmys Diaz, Omar Narvaez, Michael Chavis, KeBryan Hayes, Tyrone Taylor, Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, Jose Ramirez

[spacer height=”20px”]

CATCHER

  1. Omar Narvaez
  2. Alejandro Kirk
  3. Reese McGuire

FIRST BASE

I will acknowledge that Jose Abreu hits RHP very well and Jordan Lyles gets hit by RHB very well, otherwise I am officially done with that horrific baseball team.

  1. Rowdy Tellez
  2. Jose Abreu
  3. Franchy Cordero

SECOND BASE

This is not a great position today  but I feel you are going to just get 0 with the cheap guys unless you just skip this until the last spot and let the spinning wheel fill your choice for you.  It’s ugly…

  1. DJ LeMahieu
  2. Nolan Gorman
  3. Diego Castillo

THIRD BASE

This position on the other hand is loaded.

  1. Jose Ramirez
  2. Nolan Arenado
  3. Rafael Devers
  4. KeBryan Hayes – Should be back

SHORTSTOP

The two games I leaned on the most have great SS for the home teams in Adames and Rosario.  Two guys who can both put the ball out of the park but more importantly have multi-hit games to get driven in by the men behind them in the order.

  1. Willy Adames
  2. Amed Rosario
  3. Aledmys Diaz

OUTFIELD – MT RUSHMORE

  1. Max Kepler … Let me know when it lands.  He’s basically the only Twin that I am extremely high on and would piss my pants if they release a lineup with him leading off, but I assume he’ll bat 4th and be the highest scoring Twin on the slate.
  2. George Springer
  3. Giancarlo Stanton … Easy call on him vs Judge given the $ difference.
  4. Jaren Duran

OUTFIELD – Tier 2

  1. Nelson Cruz
  2. J.D. Martinez
  3. Christian Yelich
  4. Teoscar Hernandez

OUTFIELD – Value

Hardest choice I have today is Franmil Reyes.  He has been horrible against LHP and only hits fastballs which I doubt he see’s much of that.  But his recent PA metrics are encouraging.  So if D. Mountain makes a mistake he can easily be the must own.

  1. Franmil Reyes
  2. Andrew Benintendi – He should be way more than $3300 on DraftKings
  3. Nick Gordon
  4. Tyrone Taylor
