NBA DFS DROPPIN DIMES-Friday, JANUARY 28th

Looking at a 11-game slate starting at 7pm.

The “Droppin Dimes,” article will go over my favorite plays for the slate. It will consist of three to five core plays  along with some additional plays and some value plays. You will not always see the highest-priced players or the most obvious plays. The article will be the building blocks to help construct lineup/s.

(Note: All pricing and fantasy points are based on DraftKings but can be used for all sites.)

Always keep an eye on the status of players before lock, especially now. There are still a decent number of players with questionable tags.

Looking at another slate that has a fair amount of news we will be waiting on before lock. The Lakers have ruled out Malik Monk and listed James, Davis and Westbrook as questionable. This is big news and could open up a lot of value-issue is that we may not know until right before lock. Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr. are also both listed as questionable. This would put Jalen Green,, Alperen Sengen and KJ Martin in excellent spots.
  • IF Wood sits out then Sengen is an elite play at his price. You can also consider KJ Martin at 3.7K- has has been playing more minutes as of late.
  • IF Kevin Porter Jr sits out then Jalen Green becomes an excellent value.
  • Lakers –Talen Horton-Tucker amd Carmelo Anthony are the top plays of all three sit. Oh wait Stanley “The Man” Johnson AKA- Dimes Play. You can also look at Austin Reeves.

CORE

Norman Powell, PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS ($6100)

Powell gets a nice boost with Lillard, Little and Nance off the floor and should see some additional minutes tonight with Little and Elleby out. He came back a few games ago and it looks like his minutes are back up to normal as he played 36 last game (34 FPs in this game on 5-17 shooting)  An excellent matchup for the Blazers tonight as they face the worst defensive team in the league- The Rockets. The Blazers pick up +3 possessions in this matchup and have a team total of 117.5 (3rd on the slate).  Powell is coming in as the 3rd highest rated player on my model right behind two other Blazer players-CJ McCollum and Jusif Nurkic.

LaMelo Ball, CHARLOTTE HORNETS ($8400)
Ball is coming off one of his best games on the year dropping a triple double and scoring 29 points on 11-16 shooting. He should see more minutes along with some extra usage with Gordon Hayward out and possibly Kelly Oubre. This is an excellent spot for the Hornets tonight as they face the Lakers who run at a fast pace and allow the 5th most FPs to opposing guards. The Lakers may also be without James, Davis and Westbrook and have already ruled out Monk. I normally do not play LeMelo, but this spot is too good to pass up. I can see am 50 burger tongiht.

Cameron Johnson, PHEONIX SUNS  ($4700)
Going back to Johnson for the third time now as he continues to play big minutes with the Suns down a few centers and forwards. He logged 38 and 36 minutes over the last two games and put up 35 and 23 FPs. The price has come up a bit, but he still remains a good play with his minutes and the matchup tonight against the Timberwolves who have struggles to defend against opposing forwards. This will also be a fast paced game where the Suns pick up a few additional possession and it gives Johnson some more opportunists for FPs. He is a top ten rated player on my model tonight right behind Bizmack Biyambo who is an excellent play as well tonight.

Alperen Sengun– as core if Wood sits out.

Just missed the core….
  • Anfernee Simons
  • DeMar DeRozan
  • Franz Wagner
  • Bizmack Biyombo
Top Pay Up Spots (along with the players above-just missed core)
  • Devin Booker
  • Dejounte Murray
  • Cade Cunningham

Dimes Play

Stanley Johnson– has been playing solid minutes as of late and could see a bump with Monk out. Also, he could see a start if the other Lakers players listed as questionable sit out. Johnson contributes in all categories and will pick up the defensive stats as well.  Fast paced game where he could push 25-30 FPs in this matchup and at under 5% ownership.
