NHL DFS – The Slapshot

Friday is the new Thursday in the NHL with 10 games on this Friday night slate and a ton of great match-ups to open up like presents on Christmas morning.

SHARKS vs DUCKS

This will be the third meeting between these two clubs this season and the first two have resulted in 6-5 and 5-4 Ducks wins.  It’s safe to say that in this case if it looks like an over, smells like an over and walks like an over, it’s probably an over.  There’s just no denying that these two facing each other should be a game with lots of good scoring chances.  You’d be a fool not to have a skater here unless you are going leverage with a goalie (see below)

  • Ducks (Love them):  Zegras, Terry, Henrique, Fowler
  • Sharks:  Timo Meier

FLAMES vs BLUE JACKETS

Columbus is coming off a rough 9 GA game on Wednesday when Tage Thompson literally beat them himself.  They were playing a B2B in that spot, which means tonight they are playing 3 in 4 nights and unless their Goalie can somehow make this into a Blue Christmas they’re gonna get worked again.

BOSTON BRUINS

Boston is a tough team to full line stack tonight.  But you probably won’t be upset with having a Bruin in your lineup.  Arizona’s back to being horrific giving up 4.8 GPG over their last 5 and right now Boston is playing as well as anyone.  Might as well open the roof because this game is going over.

I am going with my gut feel on one offs from the Bruins here, absolutely zero correlation beyond PP2.

  • Taylor Hall, Hampus Lindholm

STRONG PP OF THE NIGHT

Minnesota Wild (24.4% PP vs 70.9% PK for Edmonton)

Joel Eriksson-Ek, Kirill Kaprizov, Calen Addison

The Wild have the best PP advantage over the OIlers tonight.  Their PP advantage should expose itself against a team who has given up 7 PPG over their last 5 as well.

CENTERS

A very good night down the middle for teams and lots of good players in the mid $ price range on DraftKings.

  1. Trevor Zegras … Feels like it has been too long since we rode the Zegras train.  On home ice he should have a multi-point game for a cheap price.
  2. Nazem Kadri … My second line on the road theory vs Columbus was kinda negated by Thompson’s massive game the other night.  So certainly Lindholm/Huberdeau/Toffoli stack for CGY1 is going to be popular, but I will stick with my guns and go Kadri here instead.
  3. Patrice Bergeron
  4. William Karlsson
  5. Thomas Hertl
  6. Joel Eriksson-Ek

WINGS

  1. Kirill Kaprizov
  2. Timo Meier
  3. Kyle Connor … Even in a B2B spot, Connor vs Chicago is a pretty good spot tonight.  DFS wise it could be tough to justify him over the other strong wingers tonight but this is also a good prop bet to take his SOG over and Anytime Goal bets.
  4. Taylor Hall
  5. Johnny Gaudreau
  6. Adam Henrique
  7. Jake Guentzel

DEFENSEMAN

This is a good spot to find some value tonight.

  1. Hampus Lindholm – The former Duck has prior history vs Arizona with 10+ FPPG over his last 6 vs the ‘Yotes and they’re horrific right now, so he should get an assist or two
  2. Cam Fowler
  3. Rasmus Andersson
  4. Jared Spurgeon / Calen Addison … Addison gets PP1 unit exposure and is cheaper.  Spurgeon is a better player IMO.
  5. Shea Theodore
  6. Vince Dunn

VALUE

  1. Andrew Mangiapane (CGY)
  2. Max Jones (ANA)
  3. Miles Wood (NJD)
  4. Sam Girard (COL)
  5. Jaden Schwartrz (SEA)

My Pick …

There’s a good amount of leverage options tonight and a good number of goalies who I just don’t love going.  Alexandar Georgiev is facing his former team again who he beat once, but as noted the other day he hasn’t been great at home this season.  Phillip Grubauer is also facing his former team but Washington should be below the 30 SOG rate again, so his upside is greatly limited.  Carter Hart isn’t gonna win, neither is Karel Vejmelka and UPL (Ukko-Pekka-Luukkonen) is like UPS only instead of what can Brown do for you, its what can this snowflake do for your DFS lineup….  No thanks….

Vitek Vanecek (Devils) … NJ vs NYI could be a great game tonight and the Isles have gotten off a ton of shots lately, plus this should be a game where speed comes out and we see more shots on goal.  Gimme Vanecek at home where the Devils are really good

Other Choices

  1. Logan Thompson (Vegas) … Knights should win, but save volume isnt gonna be high enough to smash the slate.
  2. David Rittich (Jets) … Even on a B2B the Jets should continue their dominance over Chicago, who they have beat 4-0 and 7-2 this season.
  3. John Gibson (ANA) & Elvis Merzlikins (CLS) … These are your leverage spots tonight.  Both should see plenty of SOG, both are cheap and both are at home.  Both also could give up 8 goals, so you have that to sweat too
