C Auston Matthews (TOR)

In a game that should be fast-paced with plenty of scoring chances on both sides, it’s hard to look beyond AM34. Matthews is the highest-priced center and has started slow (one goal, three points in five games) but here’s an opportunity for a big effort. Matthews is fourth in shots per 60 at 5v5, first in scoring chances per 60 at 5v5, and has an expected goal per 60 rate of 1.15 at 5v5. Basically, Matthews is getting his chances but isn’t capitalizing with regularity yet. Tonight looks good.

W Filip Forsberg (NSH)

The sniper for the Predators has just one goal in his first four despite averaging three shots per game. Nashville is off to a slow start overall with a 2-3-1 record while the Flyers are possibly overachieving to this point. The Predators have one of the better home-ice advantages in the league and Forsberg, who is massive part of the Preds even strength top line and top power-play unit is very affordable.

Center

Evgeni Malkin (PIT)

As much as it pains me to say it, Malkin looks fresh and strong through four games with three goals and two assists firing five or more shots on goal in three of his first four contests. Columbus has gotten very suspect goaltending early and the Pens are on fire with a 3-0-1 record.

Winger

Travis Konecny (PHI)

Konecny is a shooter through and through and has four goals in his first four games this season while coming off a game with six shots on goal. We could be on the brink of a breakout season for Konecny who’s underwhelmingly topped out at 24 goals three times in his career.

Defenseman

Brent Burns (CAR)

Burns came to Carolina in the offseason and has started his Hurricane career with three points in his first four games. Burns accumulates fantasy points a lot of different ways including scoring goals, dishing assists, firing pucks on net, and blocking shots. Calgary has struggled against defensemen early on and the veteran Burns is as offensive-minded as they come on the blue line.

No need to mess around here for me, I’m looking to the big guns at home for Nashville. Granlund and Duchene are very affordable to make way for Forsberg and Josi. All four skaters correlate on the top power-play unit as well

Goalies

Tristan Jarry (PIT)

Jarry has been rock solid early on and Columbus has been doing just enough to support good DFS goaltenders. The Jackets are directing about 30 shots on net per game but are 30th in the league in goals per game. Pittsburgh is allowing about 34 shots on goal per game, so in a game in which Pittsburgh should win, Jarry should be considered a “safe” solid floor guy in net.

Darcy Kuemper (WAS)

As the Caps’ goalie, Kuemper is 2-1-0 thus far but has allowed 3.03 goals per game in those starts. The Kings offense shouldn’t scare anyone off of Kuemper, despite averaging the 11th-most goals per game. With the number of pucks the Kings have been getting to the net, there’s some room for upside.
