Key Skaters

C Dylan Larkin (DET)

Larkin recorded 69 points in 71 games last season including 31 goals. With his dynamic speed and propensity to shoot the puck (9.1 shots per 60 minutes last season) this is a good matchup for him priced at $6,400. Montreal was one of the worst defensive teams in the league last season, especially against centers and if Montreal’s first game is any indication (John Tavares and Auston Matthews combined for eight shots and two points) Larkin should have his way.

W Chris Kreider (NYR)

Kreider found the back of the net last night and will look to build on last season’s success against the Jets which saw him record two goals in two games against the Jets. At $6,000, Kreider is very affordable in a spot where the Rangers should be able to sustain pressure as Winnipeg was among the league’s leaders in shots on goal allowed per game last season.

Favorite Line Stacks

Tampa Bay Lightning

Brayden Point, Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos

• Despite being very expensive, this trio from Tampa is picking up where they left off last season, despite seeing their campaign end in disappointment in the Cup Finals. All three are top-line skaters and skate together on the top power-play unit. Despite Columbus retooling to a degree with some fresh skaters, the Lightning are a well oiled machine and they should be able to sustain pressure in this matchup with the top guys leading the charge.

Detroit Red Wings

Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider

• The three forwards here (Larkin, Bertuzzi, and Raymond) were a force at even strength last season as one of the better trios and more productive groups in the league. All three skate on the top power-play unit along with defenseman Moritz Seider. The Wings find themselves in what could turn out to be one of the more high-scoring games of the night.

Goalies

Frederik Andersen (CAR)

• Heavily favored, the Hurricanes face an inferior opponent and Andersen will look to pick up where he left off Opening night when he stopped 31 of 32 shots against the Blue Jackets. Freddy is the “safe” play in net tonight.

Igor Shesterkin (NYR)

• A matchup of two of the bes goaltenders here in this one and Igor already has two wins under his belt this season. The Rangers are the better team, Igor is the reigning Vezina winner and Winnipeg will be playing in its first game of the season.
