The Slapshot – Feb 9th

The one good thing for the NHL with relation to COVID-19 cancelations is that for DFS purposes we get more mid-sized Tuesday night slates like today.  There are seven games going tonight which look clear of any COVID-19 issues and that’s the exact sized slate we like to dive into.

TOP STACKS

Edmonton Oilers

Connor McDavid – Tyson Barrie (EDM) & Josh Norris – Brady Tkachuk (Senators)

After a quiet 3-1 game last night in a spot where the over/under creeped up to 7, we should go right back to the Oilers/Senators today.  It was a scenario I expected the Senators to do well in and I still like their chances tonight to keep this one close and entertaining.

L.A. Kings

Anze Kopitar – Dustin Brown – Alex Iafallo – Drew Doughty

The Kings and Sharks are a unique match-up in that they have not seen each other yet this year which is very refreshing when breaking down the games.  With the Sharks yielding lots of fantasy points to opposing centers we should focus on Kopitar tonight as he has 5 multi-assist games on the year and should be able to generate favorable matchups at home.

Other top stacks based on $:

  • Calgary Flames (Monahan & Gaudreau)
  • Florida Panthers (Barkov, Duclair, Ekblad)

KEY SKATERS

CENTERS

Anze Kopitar (LAK – $6,200) – You could find anyone on the street with 10% knowledge of DFS hockey and they can write up Connor McDavid tonight, as he is obviously a good play against any team in any situation, but finding the right player at the right price point is critical to balancing your lineup.  Kopitar, Monahan and Larkin tonight are all fantastic anchors to line-ups in favorable spots at good price points.

Sean Monahan (CGY – $5,200)

Dylan Larkin (DET – $5,700)

Connor McDavid (EDM – $9,000)

Aleksander Barkov (FLA – $7,700)

WINGS

Anthony Duclair (FLA – $5,100) – Duclair is a prime example of not all goal scorers are created equal.  Last season with the Senators he registered 23 goals in 66 games and now skating with Aleksander Barkov (an upgrade honestly) he has seen all those good fortunes disappear through 9 games in 2021.  Duclair has taken the same number of shots per game (4.8) this season but has seen a slight decline from 2.8 SOG per game to 2.6 SOG per game, which is nothing more than just some bad luck for the LW as he has yet to have one find the net.  The “overdue” factor is getting higher and higher and chances of him scoring against a bad team like Detroit are extremely high.  Keep chasing Duclair until he scores.

Johnny Gaudreau (CGY – $5,800)

Alex DeBrincat (CHI – $6,60) – Over 28 DK fantasy points per game over his last three with four goals in that span.

VALUE

Jesse Puljujarvi (EDM – $4,800)

Danton Heinen (ANA – $3,600)

DEFENSEMAN

John Klingberg (DAL – $6,300)

Aaron Ekblad (FLA – $5,800)

Tyson Barrie (EDM – $5,700)

Christian Djoos (DET – $3,800)

GOALIES

Andrei Vasilevskiy (TB) – Should see 30+ shots against tonight and has a 93% save percentage this year.

Anton Khudobin (DAL) – Nowhere near as consitent as Vasilevskiy but also a high Win % and good shot volume expected

SLAP … SHOTS

LINE LOCK OF THE NIGHT Anze Kopitar – Dustin Brown – Alex Iafallo (Kings)
ONE OFF STUD Connor McDavid (EDM)
CONTRARIAN Johnny Gaudreau (CGY)
TOP VALUE Danton Heinen (ANA)
TOP DEFENSEMAN Aaron Ekblad (FLA)
GPP FADE OF THE NIGHT Vegas Golden Knights – Slower paced game and prices are too high for that.
FAVORITE BETS Oilers / Senators O6.5
